By Order of the Governor in Council dated October 1, 2026, the West Coast Oil Pipeline (now referred to as “Pacific Link”) has been the first project designated as a national interest project under Schedule 1 of the Building Canada Act.

With this designation, federal regulatory approval processes will be streamlined, with the Major Projects Office aiming to finalise conditions for the project by September 1, 2027.

More information on this announcement is provided by the news release issued by the Office of the Prime Minister.

Pacific Link will...export an additional one million barrels a day to growing markets in Asia. It will create 140,000 jobs across the country and generate over $20 billion in GDP per year, and $100 billion in government revenue by 2060
